Canada & Niagara Falls

Canada & Niagara Falls

In June of 2023, we spent five days in Upstate New York and Canada. The picture above is of the Canadian Falls, also known as the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. The day we took a guided tour of Niagara Falls, we spent time on the American side of the Falls, as well as the Canadian side. Both were stunning, but we found the Canadian Falls a bit more captivating because of its size, shape, and power. As part of the tour, we enjoyed a ride on The Maid of The Mist boat excursion, which took you downriver to the Falls. The picture above was taken aboard The Maid of The Mist as we moved closer to the Canadian Falls. While the trip aboard the Maid of The Mist lasted just 20 minutes, it was among the most memorable 20 minutes we’ve enjoyed as a couple.

The Maid of The Mist

The Maid of The Mist

We were aboard The Maid of The Mist when this picture was taken. It didn’t seem as crowded as it looked when were on the boat. You’re given a rain slicker when boarding to protect you from getting soaked when you’re what seems to be about an arm’s length from the Falls. Here’s a little info on the Maid of The Mist tour of the Falls from their website www.maidofthemist.com.

Key Aspects of The Maid of The Mist

The Maid of the Mist boat tour is a popular attraction that provides visitors with a unique and up-close experience of Niagara Falls. Passengers board specially designed boats that take them on a journey into the misty and turbulent waters of the falls. Here are some key aspects of the Maid of the Mist boat tour:

1. Boarding Points: The Maid of the Mist operates from two locations: Niagara Falls, New York, on the American side, and Niagara Falls, Ontario, on the Canadian side. Passengers can choose the departure point based on their location or preference.

2. Boat Experience: Passengers are provided with a waterproof poncho to protect them from the mist and spray generated by the falls. The boats are designed to withstand the powerful currents and offer open-air viewing decks for an unobstructed view of the falls.

6. Interpretive Commentary: Throughout the tour, passengers receive narrated commentary in multiple languages, providing information about the history, geology, and significance of Niagara Falls.

Niagara-On-The-Lake

The Charles Inn

We decided to stay in Canada when we visited Niagara Falls and we were happy we did. We stayed in a town named Niagara-On-The-Lake and spent our last day in Canada exploring the town and its wineries. The picture above is of The Charles Inn, where we enjoyed lunch at their quaint restaurant, Hob Nob. After much we enjoyed a beverage on the patio of the Niagara-On-The-Lake Golf Club, which is situated directly on Lake Ontario. Here are a couple of pictures from our short visit there:
